| HAZARDOUS MATERIALS: The DOT’s Office of Hazardous Materials Safety is responsible for coordinating a national safety program for the transportation of hazardous materials. It enforces requirements: (1) to have valid authority when operating under a DOT exemption or approval; (2) to be registered with DOT as a shipper or carrier of hazardous materials; and (3) to submit a telephonic and/or written report following the unintentional release of hazardous materials in transportation.

Property Carrier Registration (PRC)
Household Goods Mover Registration (HHG)
Motor carriers that transport property or household goods for-hire must register with the PUC.

Interstate motor carriers must also register in the Unified Carrier Registration Agreement (UCR).
|
|
Insurance filing requirements: Motor Vehicle Liability – Form E; Cargo – Form H; General Liability (household goods movers only) – Colorado Form GL.
|
|
Fees: One-time PRC application fees – $50; annual HHG registration $300; annual vehicle identification fee varies year to year.
|
|
HAZARDOUS MATERIALS: Any person transporting hazardous materials that require placarding must obtain a permit from the PUC prior to performing any transportation of those materials within Colorado. Insurance requirements vary depending on the commodity transported. Fees vary depending on fleet size.
