| Coroners must have a high school or college degree and pass a criminal background check. $25,000 minimum bond required. |
| A coroner who owns, operates, is employed by, or otherwise has an interest in a funeral establishment shall not direct business to such establishment when performing his duties. |

| Beginning in 2003, Coroners must complete training in medical-legal death investigation as specified by the Board. |
| Fees for training to be paid by county government. Some training and certification programs are available through the Colorado Coroners Association.

| Coroners, along with hospitals and health care providers, are required to report to the State Disease Control Division Reportable Causes of Morbidity and Mortality.
