In honor of American Indian/Alaskan Native Heritage Month in November, the Colorado Creative Industries Division's Capitol Art Exhibition Program, in collaboration with the Colorado Commission of Indian Affairs, is featuring the artwork of Walt Pourier and the Live Life Call to Action Campaigns of the Stronghold Society.
The exhibition runs November 4, 2013 through January 30, 2014 in the Lt. Governor's Office and basement rotunda at the Colorado state capitol building. A public reception will be held Tuesday, November 19, 2013, from 3:30-5 p.m.
The State of Colorado proudly recognizes and celebrates its oldest and continuous residents - the Southern Ute Indian Tribe and the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe - as well as all other Tribal Nations and Alaskan Native residents of the state. American Indians and Alaskan Natives have made invaluable contributions to our society in every field, from the classroom to the boardroom. During this special month, the State of Colorado encourages its citizens to celebrate the contributions of American Indians and Alaskan Natives by cultivating a new and deeper understanding of Native American culture and traditions.
The Colorado Commission of Indian Affairs, chaired by Lt. Gov. Joseph A. Garcia, serves as the official liaison between the State of Colorado, the two Ute Tribes and the urban Indian population, and works to facilitate open communication and productive relationships.
