Covidien, a leading global provider of healthcare products, opened a new 62,000 square foot, $6.7M Innovation Center on its campus in Boulder in March 2012, adding approximately 125 jobs for highly skilled workers over the next five years.
Covidien designed the new center to facilitate development of the surgical devices of the future by fostering creativity and collaboration among R&D teams, engineers, surgeons and scientists.

The Boulder Innovation Center adds to Covidien’s growing, international research and development footprint that also includes major hubs in North Haven, Conn., Irvine, Calif., Trévoux, France, Shanghai, China and Hyderabad, India. It builds on the company’s legacy of developing advanced technologies that make surgery easier to perform and leads to improved patient outcomes. The company has doubled its R&D investments and launched 100 new surgical products in the last five years.

The facility is the first non-academic or government lab in the state to receive Gold Certification from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) group. Covidien worked diligently to ensure that the building is 32% more energy efficient than a typical laboratory building by installing energy and water saving devices throughout the facility.
